About Us

The grower behind the vines

Hanan Bazak was born into a veteran farming family - among the founders of Moshav Sharona in the Lower Galilee - the youngest of three brothers. After his military service he studied horticulture - specializing in orchard crops - at the Faculty of Agriculture, and holds a master's degree.

For 43 years he served in Israel's Ministry of Agriculture Extension Service (Shaham) as the national viticulture advisor, specializing in table grapes - work that earned him a worldwide reputation in the field. He served as the Israeli Chief Viticulturist, headed the Department of Horticulture, and in his final decade of service led the Extension Service itself.

Hanan and his wife Malka made their home in Karmei Yosef, where they raised seven children - several of them partners today in the family's diversified farm of orchards and vineyards. In 2015 the Bazak family founded Bazak Agro Innovation to breed new table-grape varieties. Now retired from public service, Hanan devotes his time to the farm and to the company, with accelerated development planned for the years ahead.

The Business Approach

Outright sale of proprietary cultivars - not licensing

The company's approach is based on the outright sale of proprietary table-grape genetics, rather than the conventional licensing or royalty-based model. The portfolio of high-quality, proprietary seedless cultivars was developed through a long-term private breeding program, and the objective is to identify strategic international buyers - leading nurseries, growers and vertically integrated table-grape companies - with the capacity to commercialize and distribute these cultivars on a global scale.

Each transaction is structured as a single, upfront acquisition: the buyer acquires the available rights to a selected cultivar or cultivars, together with the genetic material and associated know-how, subject to a mutually agreed legal and intellectual-property framework. A straightforward buy-and-own model, after which the buyer owns propagation, registration, commercialization, marketing and worldwide distribution.

What the buyer gains

  • Exclusive ownership of unique genetics with commercial potential
  • Global commercialization with no ongoing royalty obligations to the breeder
  • Full control over propagation, market development, branding and distribution
  • The opportunity to add distinct genetics to an existing commercial portfolio
  • A significant long-term competitive advantage in markets seeking improved seedless table grapes

Bazak Farms

Where every selection is grown

Bazak Farms are located at Karmei Yosef, 43 km east of Tel Aviv, at 220 m elevation in the lowlands of Israel, next to several historical archaeological sites. The family grows table grapes, wine grapes, peaches, nectarines, olives and loquats - and every selection in the catalog is bred, grown and measured here, in commercial-style plots.
